Point Isabel dog park

I had never been to Point Isabel so I didn't know what to expect at the monthly little dog romp. They meet at a picnic area just north of the Mudpuppy's Sit and Stay Cafe.

Jake joins us every day.

Jake is now one of my boys. As soon as we see one another we run to start the fun. Sersha and Gabe are now including him in their play fights.

Invaders on the castle walls

The back of the house is secure from cats. But the front is not. We have a fence where a cat spends time taunting me when I come home from my walks. I always have to inspect the fence top as we park in the driveway.

Darn cats! Stay off my lawn!!

One of my buddies at Shetler Park is Bear. I have never seen a dog that looks less like his name than Bear. He is fifteen pounds and very quick.

Sometimes we run all up and down the park. Sometimes it is a relaxed mouth game kind of play. Whatever we do, it's great fun!

Shampoo and cut

I like getting my hair cut. When it gets long it is hot and matts and tangles easily. What is not so much fun is the shampoo. Or to be more specific, the smell of the shampoo. So when I went out in the afternoon I had work to do!

I went into the swampy area next to the Napa River. It didn't take very long to find a dead frog to roll on for a good base fragrance. Then came some peed-on grass and some redwood needles. Finally I began to smell more canine!

Yesterday I met Einstein. He looked very much like pictures you see of him, wild hair and all. We didn't talk about the unified field theory, we just had a good time playing.

He and I hit it off very well. Next time we meet I'll give him my phone number so his people can call my people and arrange a play date.

Marin Little Dog Romp

On Saturday Xenie and I went to the Marin Little Dog Romp at Haldan Park in Navato, California. Tommy and I went once before and had a great time so I was excited to let Xenie in on the fun.

Tornado lived up to his name and he led Hannah, Xenie and Maggie on a chaseIf anything it was even more fun than last time! We met some great dogs and chased and played the whole time.

Hannah and I chatted while her companion Sandy gave me a nice butt scratchMolly, a friendly Tibetian TerrierRight away I met Hannah and her companion Sandy. We sat on the bench and chatted and did a little mouth play. At the same time, Xenie was getting to know Molly and the other dogs who were there.

Bowie was charming and fun to be with.Bowie was charming and fun to be with. That's me in a rough-and-tumble with Xenie and BowieWe had fun running and chasing with the other dogs. When Bowie arrived he caught everyone's attention right away. Xenie and I could tell that he was ready to play, so we didn't waste any time getting acquainted. Then we played for such a long time. It was really great!

We plan to come again soon. I hope more of the rascals can come, it is not all that far away. I know they will love to meet really great dogs like Hannah, Molly, Tornado and Bowie.

Hot Air Balloon Invasion

Gabe, Serhsa and I don't like having hot air baloons at Alston Park. They are noisy and full of people who probably have cats at home.

These hot air baloons are a brazen bunch of tresspassers!!For most of the summer they have been on the east side of the valley or stayed down altogether. But for the last couple of weeks they have gathered their courage for a massive attack on the park.

One day I walked up the path to the top of the park and was greeted by the sight of thirteen baloons headed straight at us!!

Back at Alston Park

Gabe, Serhsa and I are now back at Alston Park for our morning walk. The foxtails are mostly gone and are breaking up. We still check for them in our fur, but we don't find many.

One of the reasons we like Alston Park is meeting familiar dogs. The other day we ran into Jazz and Champ, along with their pack. They usually walk ealier than we do so they are leaving as we arrive. That day they had a late start so we got a chance to walk part way round the park with them.

Foxy in the Park

Gabe, Serhsa and I have been taking our morning walk at various parks while we wait for the foxtails to be gone at Alston Park. From time to time we meet other Alston dogs who are doing the same thing. Today we met Foxy.

Foxy joins the boys and me for a snack before continuing his walkFoxy is a dog who we see from time to time but don't get a chance to chat with. I'm glad we met today because he is a very pleasant older gentleman. He even has his own blog, "My Leash on Life".

Foxy joined us for a quick snack before he continued his walk. Now that I have read his blog I see that he is very wise in the ways of humans. We shall have much to talk about when we meet again.

The foxtails are very bad this year. Xenie and Gabe have both had them in their noses and I had to go to the vet twice in 10 days.

My second trip was from one I picked up at the Oxbow Preserve that I thought was going to be safer than Alston. Both times foxtails were touching my eardrum and it was so painful that I cried and was shaking.

Maggie, recovering from traumatic doctor visit

The didn't drug me but it took two assistants to hold me down while the doctor removed the foxtail. I didn't know exactly what they wanted to do and I was so scared that I made a mess on the table.

It was very embarrassing!!

Before meeting Simon I had never known a dog who had been to San Quentin Prison. I thought he might be a rough character, but he is a sweetheart who gets along well with everybody. He is smart and so handsome and dogly.

Simon had a rough start in life. He was an abandoned puppy in Northern California. There was nobody who wanted to adopt him so he came to the Marin Humane Society and then on to San Quentin for training. After completing the program with flying colors he was adopted and now lives here in Napa.

Did I mention how handsome he is?! *woof*woof*

Maggie on Neighborhood Watch

In addition to my duties as Queen of the pack, I do some community service. I keep an eye on the street and sidewalk.

Maggie on Neighborhood Watch

I have a table with a large pillow set up by the front window. It is in the office area where I gather my people. They like being near me. I have them do some brushing and combing during slow times on watch.

When a dog comes by, I warn it not to come near. I use my confident "big-dog" voice and they and their people move on.

Xenie's Foxtail Emergency

Xenie started sneezing hard after walking at Alston Saturday evening. He thought it was just allergy so he took some Benadryl and tried to sleep. But the sneezing got worse and by 5AM he had started bleeding. Three hours later he was at the Napa Small Animal Hospital. There was a huge foxtail in his nose.

Xenie comforted by Charlie and Tommy

Xenie is resting with Charlie and Tommy visiting to cheer him up. I'm sure he will be back to his normal frolicking self soon.

I had my own trip to the vet this week to get a foxtail out of my ear. There was no blood but it really, really hurt.

As much as we love going to Alston Park, it looks as if we need to find an alternative spot for our long, off-leash walks. We are going to check out some other parks where we can go for the next couple of months until the foxtails are gone. I'll let you know what we find.

Gabe, Balloon Hunter

Gabe's most important job is to keep those noisey hot air balloons out of the park. He does a very good job, too. You can go almost any time and Alston Park is balloon free.

Gabe taking the basket off to bury it.

As the weather has turned warmer, we have change our start time to 7:00AM. That is how we caught them trying to land in our park. That first day, when one of them landed right in front of us, Gabe was totally outraged! How DARE they!!

Lily - They grow up SO fast!

Lily is the youngest of the Alston Little Rascals. She has a schedule these days whereby we don't see her as much as we did, but she is always welcomed enthusiastically when she comes!

Lily as a teenager

She stopped to pose for a new picture for her Alston Little Rascals page. She has a cute hairdo and has grown quite a bit since her last one.

Camille Park, Napa, California

Camille Park, Napa, California

Camille Park is a city park, not a dog park. As with all city parks dogs are allowed on leash. I go to this park on rainy days because it is very close to where I live. If we can find a half hour between showers, I get a chance to stretch my legs and run around a little.

Click for Google Map DirectionsAlthough at first glance, the park looks nice, it is not a good general destination for a fun-loving dog like me. My people get all stressed when I am out of sight like when I chase one of the three resident cats down into the creek bed or if I go down one of the sidewalks among the condominiums right next to the park. Also, many of the dogs I have met are not very friendly and don't seem to like other dogs.
