Our Kimi, Cover Girl

Kimi, world famous in Napa
The whole Alston Little Rascals Pack is so proud of Kimi. She has made the cover of "Tattle Tails", the official newsletter of the Napa Valley Dog Training Club. Kimi has told us how much fun it is going through the tunnel, jumping the fences, and, of course, getting treats for doing it. At the club she is known as "Rocket Dog" because of her speed.

Sophia's First Time at Alston

Sophia is just the cutest Beagle/Norfolk Terrier mix puppy. She was so excited and curious. She and her friend Cassandra had heard about Alston but this was their first time to visit the park.

Gabe and Sersha invited her over to join us in a treat. Then we spent a few minutes telling her about all the wonderful things to see and smell at the top of the hill where we go for our longer morning walk.

Maybe next time Sophia comes she will be able to convince Cassandra to let her run with us off leash.

Movie Review of 'Dean Spanley'

The emotional ties, the love, between a dog and her humans is very profound. This is often explored in movies from the human side but Dean Spanley attempts to imagine what the dog feels and does a decent job of it.

The title character, Dean Spanley, is able to give voice to the spirit of a dog. Not just any dog, but one loved and missed deeply by one of the humans who find a way to get in touch with it. It seems a little slow getting started, but it is really setting up the scents that marks the trail of the story as it unfolds. Just let it happen and it will all come clear.

This movie is available on Netflix.

Dog Agility Course

Kimi often talks about what she learned at her agility training class. It sounds like fun. She says the little agility course at Alston is pretty lame, but I see dogs using it, so I thought I would give it a try.

As I started trying to figure out the thing to climb, Sersha and Gabe's person Rick came over. He had chicken breast treats and gave me some as I made progress. After only four tries I made it to the top!

Dog Picture Caption Contest

I was in the park with Gabe and Sersha the other day just poking around the small dog area when who should come in but Jazz and Champ. I was a little nervous since I am all white like a little lamb but I needn't have worried. They didn't pay much attention to us.

What are Jazz and/or Champ thinking or saying to some dog or person?

Think of a caption for this picture and add it as a comment.
The winner gets a "Good DOG!"

A Big Bird at the Park

Alston Park in the favorite place for the Rascals to walk. The park was especially full of sights and smells this morning. I didn't get to walk with any of them today because on Saturday we come an hour later than usual.

Tommy and Xenie were just leaving when I got there. They told me to keep a lookout for this funny big bird on the top of the hill. It had a strange way of walking. You could hardly tell it was moving because nothing moved quickly enough to catch their eye.

When I got to the top of the hill and started on one of the paths, there it was out in the open. It was so pretty that all I could do was sit and watch it.

After awhile I walked toward it to get a better look. Naturally it saw me and spread its big wings and flew a few yards from the paths into the tall grass.
